I pay my self assessment weekly in arrears through an umbrella payment company to keep things on track. I've just completed a self assessment and they have added an amount owed which is for the first half of next years tax.......its week one of that year. Will they deduct this from my refund which they'll be paying me.I've paid my tax weekly for years and never noticed this before.

Hi,

You may have payments on account in place. These are advance payments towards your tax bill. Any repayment from Self Assessment will be applied to payments on account if their due date has passed, before being repaid to you. You can see more information here:
