Cheque replacement

Hi, I’m still new to these self assessment forms and terminology. I have a message from HMRC (within the app), stating I have a tax refund on my self assessment in Jan. the title states it’s a cheque replacement for payment, can some one tell me what this means, as I don’t think it a actual refund as we’re in March and nothing has changed.
