My main income is from a local government pension from which tax is deducted at source. I also have a small income from self employment. When completing my self-assessment I was surprised to see that the 'balancing payment' for 22/23 in the 'View your calculation' page included the total tax due from all income sources. This includes tax that I have already paid on my local government pension. Can I assume that, after I submit my return adjustments will be made to the balancing payment for 22/23 and also the 1st 'payment on account' for 23/24 so that I'm not paying twice for tax already paid on my local government pension? This will be my first self assessment return so I'm just seeking reassurance. Thanks

Hi,

The calculation will show tax due on all your income.

The tax deducted from your pension will be shown further down the calculation  (if you have entered it) and will be deducted from the tax due total.

Thank you.
