RE: Change of employment status
Hi Firsttime Payer,
If your self employment ceased 2022/23 and you no longer meet the Self Assessment criteria for 2023/24 we can close your record which will cancel the payments on account.
You can check if you meet the criteria at Check if you need to send a Self Assessment tax return and if no longer meet the criteria can send a referral to close your record and cancel the payments on account.
Thank you. -
RE: Two ta code notices received in one year
Hi Mihai Enache,
If no underpayment was collected in your 2022/23 tax code the entry will be nil.
This will also be the case if no estimated underpayment from 2022/23 is being collected in your 2023/24 code.
Thank you.

RE: Calculating adjusted net income for tax free childcare / 30 free hours
Hi M22,
Add together the total income liable to income tax
This includes:
income from employment before tax
profits from self employment
employment benefits (for example medical benefit, car benefit)
pensions including State Pension
income from property
gross savings and dividends
Deduct any allowable reliefs
This includes:
Professional Subscriptions
Flat Rate Expenses
Job Expenses
Payments to pension schemes that have been made without deduction of tax (a gross payment)
Trading losses (early trade loss, trade loss relief against general income, property loss relief against general income)
Qualifying loan interest payments
Deduct any grossed up:
Gift Aid donations
pension contributions
Do not deduct any pension payments made under net pay arrangements, these are deducted from salary before the employer provides
PAYE and are therefore ignored for the purposes of calculating adjusted net income.
Add any relief claimed for payments to trade unions or police organisations
Thank you. -

RE: Cease self employment, how to remove payments in accounts for the current tax year?
Hi Mar Sam,
1. The payments on account are not shown on the Self Assessment tax calculation, SA302. The credit for the payments on account made are shown on your statement. The payments on account will be deducted from the balance calculated on the SA302 with the difference being due for payment.
2. If your self employment has ceased this will not automatically close your Self Assessment. You can check if you meet Self Assessment criteria at Check if you need to send a Self Assessment tax return and if you do not you can send a submission to close your record. Once closed the 2023/24 payments on account will be cancelled.
Thank you.

RE: Cancel P85
Hi spelt-03-flies,
The P85 form should still be used to advise that you are leaving the uk and you do not need to submit a tax return.
If you no longer intend to remain in the employment of a UK employer, you should confirm this on the P85.
If you have a P45 and intend claiming a repayment, you should include with your completed P85.
Thank you.
