If this is the state pension then your father can check his tax code for the deduction made or checking payments received or it will be shown on his online personal tax account Personal tax account: sign in or set up.
The state pension will be 13 x 4 weekly payment.
He can also contact the department of works and pension for the details 0800 731 7898 Monday to Friday 8am to 6pm.

You would need to contact HMRC to see if balance can be returned to Self Assessment, if in your tax code the balance will be spread over the 12 months of the 2024/25 tax year.

The threshold to pay tax at 40% is £50,270 if not in Scotland.
If this is the case for yourself then based on your annul salary £50,049 you will still be in the basic rate 20% band.
