RE:Reactivating Self-Assessment after a long break (over 20 years)
Hi Mitre64,
You can send an unsolicited return, though to ensure that your return is processed as quickly as possible, it may be better to confirm that your Self Assessment record has been reopened, and a return is expected for the year.
If your previous SA1 submission was rejected, contact us by webchat or phone here:
Self Assessment: general enquiries
We can review your record, and issue the notice to file if necessary.
Thank you. -
RE:End of year tax code change not updated by employer
Hi ML M
As soon as your repayment for 23/24 is calculated, you should be able to see it, and claim it, via your personal tax account.
Please go to:
Personal tax account: sign in or set up
You should also be able to check your tax code here.
If you need to change your code, or would like to check the progress of your repayment, contact us by webchat or phone here:

RE: annual bonus tax implications
Hi Anton,
As you will be receiving your uprated pay and bonus in your last wage of the 23/24 tax year, you should not be over-taxed.
If you do overpay tax, though, this should be refunded to you when your overall 23/24 tax liability is calculated, which usually happens around May. Please note, if your overall pay exceeds £100,000, you may be required to complete a Self Assessment return.

RE:Understanding UK/ Australia double taxation
Hi MarjJ763,
As UK resident for 23/24 you are liable on your worldwide income for the whole year.
You will therefore need to complete a tax return for 23/24 to claim Foreign Tax Credit Relief for the Australian income for Jan-Mar.
Guidance for this is at:
Relief for foreign tax paid (Self Assessment helpsheet HS263)
As non resident thereafter (until you come back to UK) then no further returns required.
You may need to complete 1 for the year you return.
Thank you,
-
