RE:Tax Code - Private Pension contributions
Hi Dan Springett,
If personal pension payments are shown in your current 2023/24 tax code then this will be what is expected to be paid in to the pension in the current tax year
If this figure is incorrect then you will need to contact HMRC to review and update:

RE: Foreign Pensions - Double Tax Agreements
Hi Jon Carter,
Under the terms mentioned, the pension is only liable in the UK.
As you are not a UK resident you would need to check with the Austrian tax authorites to ascertain if they still wish the income to be referred to when you submit a tax return.
Had the situation been the reverse, under UK details, you would not declare the income but make reference to receiving it and that it is tax free and refer to the particualr article of the dta.
Thank you.

RE:Already a Landlord but now starting Self-Employment
Hi Port End,
You will need to register to pay Class 2 National Insurance.
You will still use the same UTR to show the self employment and the rental income.
Thank you.

RE:SIPP and Earned Income
Hi yodamochi Rahman,
It would only be considered a business if you were registered as self femployed to then pay Class 2 and Class 4 National Insurance.
This is unlikley to have been the case as you will be a non resident landlord and taying tax only.
For pensoin relief please refer to:
Tax on your private pension contributions
Thank you.

RE:National Insurance Number process
Hi Lavina,
It is not clear from your enquiry if you actually have a National Insurance number (NINO) or not.
In the first part of your enquiry you say you applied for a NINO in September 2023 but didn’t get a response from ‘us’.
HMRC do not issue NINO’s.
Applications for NINO’s are dealt with by the Department of Work and Pensions (DWP) and it is them who issue NINO.'s
Their telephone number is 0800 141 2079.
We assume this is the ‘0800’ number that you refer too.
The process to issue a NINO should not take more than 8 weeks.
If you called HMRC and we were unable to trace a NINO for you, this may mean that one has not been issued to you or it may mean that we need more information to trace it.
This information would be requested on form CA5403.
You say you sent this form to us in December, the usual processing time for this form is 7 working days.
If you have not received a reply, we suggest you call both DWP on 0800 141 2079 and also the NI helpline on 0300 200 3500.
Thank you.
