RE: Cash gift from parents outside UK
Hi Alice Russell,
There are no Income Tax implications on the receipt of a cash gift unless the cash gift generates interest or dividends.
These would then potentially be subject to tax.
Further guidance can be found here:
Tax on savings interest
Tax on dividends
Any gift would only from part of your estate if from the UK.
You may however want to check with the tax authorities in Hong Kong to see if it is taken into account there.
Thank you.

RE: Should I remain registered as self-employed when I become employed?
Hi Karen Footman,
If you continue to be self employed and your gross annual turnover form self employment is over £1000.00, then you will need to continue submitting tax returns, declaring your world-wide income.
This will include your employment income.
If your self employment ceases or your gross turnover is less than £1000, a tax return may no longer be required.
Please answer the questions here:
Check if you need to send a Self Assessment tax return,
To determing if a tax return is still required.
Thank you.
