Re:Class3 contribution (toward gap years) for wife who never worked and has ZERO qualifying years
Hi,
If your wife did not receive a National Insurance number until 2011. The earliest year she could potentially pay for would be the 2010/11 tax year (if the number was created 5th April 2011 or Prior) or the 2011/12 tax year (if the number was created 6th April 2011 or after).
However, HMRC does not determine the amount of qualifying years a person needs for their state pension or which years will and wont benefit a person. This is all Administered by Department for Work and Pensions.
You will have to direct your query back to the Future Pension Centre.

Re:National Insurance Help
Hi
National Insurance is charged individually on each job if you have multiple employments during a tax year.
There are weekly, monthly and annually thresholds and if you hit the Primary Threshold during the week, month or year you are paid, you will be charged National Insurance.
National Insurance will be charged how ever often you are paid and receive a payslip from your employer.
For example one month your gross pay could be well above the Primary Threshold in which case you will be charged national insurance for that month even though your Annual Gross earnings are below the Annual Primary threshold.
Rates and allowances: National Insurance contributions
There is also a National Insurance calculator you can use to check to see if your employer has took off the correct amount of National Insurance during the Week, Month or Your Annual Pay.
How much are you paid? - PAYE Tax Calculator
Thank you.

Re:Mechanism for paying class 2 NI contributions from abroad
Hi Bazeba,
Hi
If you are making the payment from a UK bank account then you pay to the bank details below:
• sort code - 08 32 20
• account number - 12001004
• account name - HMRC NIC Receipts
For the reference number, if you either live abroad or live in the UK but are paying for a period when you worked or lived abroad, you create your own reference number. Use your National Insurance number followed by ‘IC’, your surname then your initial.
If your bank limits you to a certain number of characters, you should use your National Insurance number followed by ‘IC’ and as much of your surname as possible.
Thank you.

Re:Mechanism for paying class 2 NI contributions from abroad
Hi mattk kikii,
In order to set up a payment of National Insurance from abroad for past, current and/or future years, you must fill in a CF83 application form if you haven’t done so already. Please find a Link to the application form below:
Apply to pay voluntary National Insurance contributions when abroad (CF83)
The form can be filled in either online or by printing the form off, filling in and posting.
Unfortunately there is no Email service for this type of application.
Thank you.

Re:Mechanism for paying class 2 NI contributions from abroad
Hi classwho,
Providing that the IBAN and Bank Identifier Code (BIC) are the same then the name of the account is fine.
Just to confirm that the IBAN for our bank is GB49 BARC 2020 4830 944793 and BIC BARCGB22.
Thank you -
Re:Mechanism for paying class 2 NI contributions from abroad
Hi Adrian Wade,
Before deciding to pay any voluntary National Insurance contributions, may I suggest that you speak with The Pension Service first.
They will be able to advise which tax years it would be beneficial for you to make payment for.
Their telephone number is:- 0800 731 0175 (from the UK) or +44 191 2183600 (from overseas)
Thank you. -
Re:Invalid National Insurance number.
Hi,
If you could write to HMRC and include as much information as possible about your employment in the 1980s and 1990s, we will be able to try to trace any National Insurance contributions for you.
If you could give the full names of your employers and periods of employment for each one (from … to …) and copies of any payslips that you might have then this would be helpful.
HMRC's postal address is: HM Revenue & Customs, PT Operations North East England, BX9 1AN, United Kingdom.
Thank you.

Re:Paying NI gaps between April 2006 and April 2016 at Class 2
Hi,
If you either live abroad or live in the UK but are paying for a period when you worked or lived abroad.
You have to create a reference number for yourself, different to the 18 digit reference number that the gov.uk website asks for when you try to make the payment through the “Pay Online” Section. You Use your National Insurance number followed by ‘IC’, your surname then your initial.
Currently you can’t make a payment with this type of reference number online.
Please follow the “Make an online or telephone bank transfer” section. I am unable to advise whether this will change in future.
Thank you.
