Hello, This year is the first time of my limited company to file the Corporate Tax Return. The business started on 20th Janurary 2023, the accounting period ended on 31st January 2024. According to HMRC Corporate Tax, filing a Company Tax Return is 12 months after your accounting period for Corporation Tax ends. It may have to file 2 tax returns to cover the period of your first accounts and also have 2 payment deadlines i.e. 1st tax return for the period from 20th January 2023 to 19th January 2024, and the 2nd one for the period from 20th January 2024 to 31st January 2024. Afterward, the accounting period will be 12 months from 20th January 2024. Is my understanding correct? What is the due date of my filing the 1st and 2nd Company Tax Return? Is it on or before 31st January 2025 (12 months after your accounting period for Corporation Tax ends) or 2024? Please help to provide advice. Thank you. Chris

Hi Chris
You advise that your first accouting period runs from 20/01/2023 to 19/01/2024 and second period runs 20/01/2024 to 31/01/2024.
Both periods will have the same filing date of 31/01/2025. The periods will then run from the 1st February to the 31st of January each year and have a filing date of 31st January of the next year.
Thankyou.

Hi, I'll be filing my corporation tax return for 2023/2024 in June 2025. During the tax year 2024/2025 I'm expecting to make a gain as I'm selling a residential property and will have to pay CGT. If I file my corporation tax return for this in June 2025 when is the deadline for the CGT payment? Thanks

Hi Robert

Payment of Corporation Tax is expected 9 months & 1 day from end of the account period.

So for APE June 2024,payment would be expected by 01/04/2025, if the account period end was 30/06/2024.

Thank you .

Hi Robert

Your initial question does not make clear if the company has been trading, or if the CT return will merely be reporting NRCG (non-resident capital gains). For clarity, if it’s the latter, then the Accounting Period should only be one day, and given the rules over QIPs (Quarterly Instalment Payments) the CT due may be payable almost immediately.

Thanks

The residential property that is being sold is owned by an overseas entity (which has been registered at UK Companies House). The only asset is the property. So, to clarify when would the CT on the gain be paid if the sale occurs during the accounting period ending 30/06/2025?

Hi,
I have unfortunately did not submit my corporate tax return ending on 27.09.2023, I know there is a penalty but I cannot submit my tax return online now as the company is on dormant status.
Is it possible to submit late corporate tax return, 14 months after deadline?

Hi ybyb,
We would suggest contacting us, via the options at: Corporation Tax: general enquiries to activate the period for which you wish to file.
After completing this, you should be able to file online.
Please note that the online system may take 24-48 hours to update.
Thank you.
