I am taxed at source by my company but have had a calculation appear saying I owe £3.5k in unpaid tax. As far as I can tell my tax codes are correct. I did (luckily) have a bigger than normal bonus (was backpaid from 2020) which took my earnings higher than usual. I also didn't return my previous year's assessment in time to have Child Benefit taken out of my tax, so I am aware I will owe that back. But that doesn't account for the £3.5k. Does anyone know why this may have happened? The only thing I can think of is my personal allowance would reduce by £1 for every £2 over the threshold. But shouldn't that be handled by PAYE deductions? Thanks in advance.

If we did not have an accurate estimate of your earnings, the tax code may have been wrong.
Please contact our helpline who can advise of why the amount is due by reviewing your record.
