I have lost access to both digital and hard copies of my self assessment records (to demonstrate non-residency under sa109) for the tax year 2018/19. Whilst guidance indicates to keep records for only 22 months after the tax year end (which would have been February 2021), I am uncomfortable at my position. What should I do under these circumstances or is it inconsequential in view of the time period elapsed?

Hi,

HMRC expects customers to make every effort to follow the guidance at RDRM12920, as regards the retention of residency-related records.

You can find more here:

RDRM12920 - Residence: The SRT: Record keeping: Home

Thank you.
