Problem logging on

Hi. I am trying to log on to government gateway but have forgotten my password. I have tried to re-set this but it says I need an access code from the gateway app. First of all what is the gateway app - I can find a gov ID app? Having tried to use the gov ID app it says I need to scan a QR code that may be below one I have already scanned…I have not scanned any and I have no idea what or where to find the relevant QR code. I seem to be stuck in a loop of needing to sign in to government gateway to verify my ID and needing to verify my ID to reset my government gateway password. Any ideas on what to try next I have been going round in. Rifles with this low for an hour and a half. Thanks
