  • RE: Delayed A1 form

    Hi

Depending on how you applied for your A1 would affect the time scales.

If you applied online we are currently working on applications received around the 31st of October.  If you applied by post we are working on items recieved around 23rd of April 2023.

    Thanks

  • RE: NI contributions for years when too unwell to work

    Hi felicity1

If you are medically unfit for work, you can contact the DWP to make a claim for Employment and Support Allowance (ESA).
Even if you are not entitled to any money, you may still be entitled to NI credits for a period when you have medical certification to confirm you cannot work.
I am unsure if a claim to NI credits for this reason can be backdated, however this is entirely within the remit of DWP rather than HMRC.

For more help, I suggest you call the ESA contact centre on 0800 055 6688.

Regards your second question, broadly speaking you can pay any shortfalls from 2006-07 onwards at the Class 3 rate.
You will need to speak to Future pensions helpline on 0800 731 0175  (8.00am to 6.00pm Monday to Friday) to see what shortfalls you have and how paying them would increase your pension.
Having spoken to them, if you wish to make payment , they can transfer you to HMRC who will give payment details.

    Thanks

  • RE: Incorrect DOB On HMRC

    Hi Timothy Box

I am afraid that the area who will deal with this are currently dealing with work received on 4 January 2023, meaning a current turnaround of 57 weeks.

    Thanks

  • RE: Using your Personal Tax Account to check if you can make voluntary NICs and pay online

    Hi

I am afraid this tool is still in the development stage. Full details of how it can be used will be provided when they are available.

At present, the only way to pay online is using the reference number provided by calling the NI helpline on 0300 200 3500. Lines are open 8am – 6pm Monday to Friday.

If you still have a cheque book, have checked with DWP that the payment will increase your pension entitlement and know how much to pay, you can send in a cheque to –

National Insurance Contributions & Employer Office
    HM Revenue & Customs
    BX5 5BD

Make the cheque payable to 'HM Revenue and Customs only'

Write your NINO on the back of the cheque and include a covering letter to advise which year(s) you are paying.

    Thanks

  • RE: Don't understand my state pension forecast

    Hi Maryellen

You refer to the year ‘1978’. It is not clear if this is the tax year 1977-78 or 1978-79?

Home Responsibilities Protection (HRP) ran from 6 April 1978 to 5 April 2010. For customers (such as yourself)  who reached State Pension age on or after 6 April 2010, HRP was converted into National Insurance credits (if the customer needed them) up to a maximum of 22 qualifying years. Credits were only given for full tax years.

So in your particular case, your eldest child was born in January 1978 and so HRP may have been applied to your record from 1978-79 onwards. If you are referring to the 1977-78 year, HRP did not begin until April 1978 so would not have been available for the 1977-78 year.

I suggest you check with the DWP to establish if you are already in receipt of a full state pension. If you are there is no need to take any additional action.  If you are not, but the shortfall is for years prior to April 1978, I am afraid there is nothing that can be done as HRP was not available prior to that date.

    Thanks
  • RE: No NI credits showing on NI statement

    Hi CJS349 HIPPY

I am afraid we would need your wife’s details to establish the situation with regard to this specific year.

Can I suggest she contacts the NI helpline on 0300 200 3500. Lines are open 8am – 6pm Monday to Friday.

    Thanks

  • RE: Yet to receive NI number

    Hi Hucktheberry

While we cannot give our your National Insurance number over the telephone, if you call the National Insurance helpline they should be able to issue you a letter including your National Insurance number.
Alternatively you can complete the CA5403 (available here: Get your National Insurance number - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk) and your National Insurance number will be sent to you

    Thanks

  • RE: Online Voluntary National Insurance Contributions Tool

    Hi Keith

I am afraid this tool is still in the development stage. Full details of how it can be used will be provided when they are available. I can however advise that you can now complete and submit form CF83 online.

I am sorry I cannot give any further information at this stage.

    Thank you
