If you have remitted 40k then its the 40k that you report, if you remit 3k then its the 3k that you report.

You can submit a claim in writing by sending the details to:
HMRC PAYE & Self Assessment BX9 1AS.
As it is unlikley that any claim would now be received by 31/1/24, you will need to refer to overpayment relief in your claim
