RE: Payments on Account
Hi GLawrence,
1. No, if payments on account have been calculated you cannot remove them from your Self Assessment tax return.
2. If you think your balance will be less for the next tax year you can make a request to reduce your payments on account.
You can do this on your tax return or by submitting a SA303:
Self Assessment: claim to reduce payments on account (SA303)
Once updated the payments on account will be updated on your statement.
As close to the payment due date if you know the payments on account will be reduced you can make the payment from the new amount.

Hi Patrick Bryan,
Once your Self Assessment is processed if you have made payments on account these will be deducted from the balance calculated.
You can check your online account to make sure this has been done.

If your husband as 2 UTR numbers for his individual Self Assessment he will need to contact HMRC to review and update to cancel the duplicate record.

You will need to wait for your UTR before making the payment.

Yes, if the Self Assessment balance is being collected in your tax code late payment penalties will not be charged.

You would show this as foreign income and claim Foreign Tax Credit Relief for the US tax deducted.

RE:I can't close my self-assesment my request gets rejected automatically
Hi Beatrice Baiu,
We are sorry you are having issues trying to close your Self Assessment aacount.
If your letter was sent 2 months ago then this should have been reviewed by now.
As you are not able to submit the request online we would need to access your record to check on the progress of your letter.
