Re: Estimated income by Gov - how is calculated?
Hi Christine Hicks,
It may be that your state pension is above the personal allowances of £12570 so tax will be due at 20% on the amount above this.

Re: RE: First Self Assessment - Other Income from Freelance Job
Hi JasonSali,
International organisations normally distinguish between those they consider to be `officials' (see INTM860630) and `consultants' (generally designated by the organisations as `experts on mission') who are considered to have the status of independent contractors. The customer has advised they are a freelance contractor rather than an employee. INTM860750 refers specifically to employees. Claims to exemption from individuals regarded by the organisation as `consultants' or `experts on mission' should be resisted and their fees taxed in the normal way. See
INTM860760 - INTM860760 - Employees of International Organisations: Experts/consultants. We cannot give any rulings/opinions in relation to international employments on a general forum, there is a specialist business area (the email is in the manual reference I have supplied). You should supply full facts in writing for further advice.

Re: Backpay From A Pay Award Covering Several Years
Hi Derek_F_1968,
You will need to write to HMRC at H.M. Revenue and Customs Pay As You Earn BX9 1AS and make a claim for 'arrears of pay'. In your letter, you will need to provide a breakdown of the payment you received and how it relates to each of the earlier tax years.
Please have a look at the guidance at PAYE70023 - PAYE operation: aspects of PAYE operation - employer: payment of arrears of pay for closed tax years and EIM02530 - Employment Income: arrears of pay and awards under the Equal Pay Act 1970 for more information.
Thank you. -

Re: CGT on deceased property
Hi Jo P-K Payne,
If the property was named in a will, along with the beneficiaries, then when your last surviving parent passed away, the property was transferred to the beneficiaries, with a value as declared in probate. If the property is disposed of for more than the probate value, then a capital gain arises. Each of the beneficiaries would need to work out what their gain is and report and pay it within 60 days of completion.
Thank you.

Re: Foreign income
Hi CP,
As you are in receipt of foreign income, you are required to complete a self assessment tax retur, where you will declare all of your world-wide income. This included the sources of income included in your question, as they are taxable in the UK.
