  • Re:22/23 National Insurance contributions

    Hi,
Voluntary National Insurance contributions may be paid for the tax year before the one in which an individual reaches State Pension Age.
As you’ve advised that you reached Pension Age in July 2023 then you will be able to pay voluntary contributions for the 2022-2023 tax year.
If you could call our National Insurance Helpline on 0300 200 3500 they will be able to check your National Insurance account and help you make payment.
You should speak with The Pension Service first to ensure that it will be worthwhile to pay voluntary contributions for the 2022-2023 tax year.
    Their telephone number is 0800 731 0469.
    Thank you.

  • Re:Wrong number of years NI

    Hi,
The 3 extra tax years may be what we call ‘Juvenile Credits’.  Credits were awarded for the first 3 years of a person’s working life – that’s the tax years in which a person reached ages 16, 17 and 18.  So it could be that your National Insurance account is correct.
If you have access to your Personal Tax Account (PTA) you should be able to see those 3 early tax years as credits recorded.  If you don’t have access to your PTA you can set one up via www.gov.uk or you may wish to call our National Insurance Helpline (0300 200 3500) and they will be able to check your National Insurance account and see if you were awarded the Juvenile Credits.
If you’d like to check your pension entitlement you may do so via:
Contact the Future Pension Centre or call Future Pension Centre on 0800 731 0175
    Thank you.

  • Re: Double Taxation agreement - withdrawing from UK pensions - non resident

    Hi,
If you are resident in the USA and commence receipt of UK based pensions, you need to download and print off the form DT individual UK/USA (UK-USA (SI 2002 number 2848) (form US-Individual 2002)) which can be found at:
    Double Taxation: UK-USA (SI 2002 number 2848) (form US-Individual 2002)
This is not the same as the form 8802 you mention.
On the form, you declare the pensions you have commenced receipt of, you signed and date it and then send it to your local IRS office for validation. The IRS will validate the form, confirming that you are resident in the USA for tax purposes and the pensions are taxable there.  The IRS will send the validatef form to HMRC to process.
HMRC can then contact the pension providers and instruct them to refund any tax they have deducted.
    Thank you.
