Hi Tom3869,
From 1975 Starting Credits (sometimes known as Juvenile Credits) were awarded for tax years during which the customers' dates of birth made them 16, 17 or 18 years of age.
These credits may not be showing on your statement or pension forecast, but will be included in your total reckonable years.
These three years will count towards your State Pension.
Thank you.

Hi. Greetings. I applied for my national insurance number over a month now. During my national insurance number registration records. I made a mistake in my address. I have contacted the helplines, they told me that my Ni number is out but have not been sent to me due to the mistake in address during registration. I was directed to contact HMRC for an update of address. I contacted the HMRC and was asked to put my national insurance number which I haven't even gotten yet.I have been finding it difficult to resolve the address mistake. Please do you have an explanation? How do I go about correcting the mistake of address? I really need help, and need my NI number urgently for my job. Please help me. Thank you.

I have just moved to the UK to begin working here. I have applied for a National Insurance number and received an Application Reference Number by email and the email provided a number to call to make an appointment to show my ID documents as the next stage of the process. However each time I call the number there is just an automated message and the phone goes dead when I make the proper selection. This number does not seem to be working. Please please can some help be provided as I need to speak to someone as I cannot get on the payroll system without the NI number. Thanks in advance, Caroline Keohane

Hi, I am French and UK resident since 1999. I printed a pension forecast last year which said I had 3 more qualifying years than I really worked and was itemised, which must be the 3 years of juvenile credits. However: - this info does not appear anymore on my current forecast ( although the itemised years are correct). Why and has anything changed? - are these 3 years included in what will be disclosed to the French pension service when I draw my French pension and will they be taken into account in the same way as the worked years when counting the "trimestres" ( 3 months periods) necessary to draw a full pension in France?

Hi,
Without checking your National Insurance records we are unable to confirm why the 3 years of credits are no longer shown in your current forecast.
You would need to contact our National Insurance team to discuss this with an advisor.
National Insurance: general enquiries
With regards to your query about your French pension, we can confirm that if the French authorities have requested information from HMRC relating to your National Insurance records, all credits would be included in any response issued to the French authorities. However, we cannot confirm how they take these credits in to account when they calculate your entitlement to a French Pension.
You would need to contact them to find this out. The International Pension Service may also be able to provide you with information relating to your French Pension.

Thank you.

Hi, I noticed that the answer provide to Tom3869 regarding the Juvenile Contributions assigned to foreign workers it is different in another answer for a similar question provided in this forum: https://community.hmrc.gov.uk/customerforums/ni/95f26221-f52b-ee11-a81c-000d3a8751e3 “the conditions for these credits are that you must have been resident in UK at the time the credits are awarded and registered for a UK NI account. If you come from abroad and your Date of Entry into the UK scheme falls after these years, there will be a Flag set on the system to allow the “discounting” of these credits and have them removed.” Can you please clarify if the 3 years will remain or will be removed to a foreign worker who had the entry in the UK when older than 18 years old but before 2010? Many thanks

Hi Salisbury1980,
Up to 6 April 2010 juvenile credits were automatically awarded for the 16th, 17th and 18th birthday years when a juvenile registered for a UK NINO.
These credits were also awarded to people coming into the UK from abroad up to 6 April 2010.
Therefore, based on the information provided they will remain on your record.
Thank you.
