HMRC phone service - why do I keep getting cut off

I have just tried to call HMRC twice to query my tax code. The information I need is not online. On both occasions I was just cut off having gone through the various automated questions. Looking on the forums this appears to be a common problem. What are HMRC doing about this. It is really frustrating. I am just trying to make sure that my tax affairs are in order.

Same here. After waiting I was told "we can't help you" and hung up. All I want is to understand my new coding which has been adjusted for underpaid tax in previous years which I can't reconcile.

Again exactly the same, 3 times yesterday and again today

Called today (18th May 2023) at 11:12, got through around 11:40 and spoke to an advisor who tried to help but long periods of silence whilst they looked into my account, ended up being transferred to another individual who again seemed really helpful, although part way through this dialogue I was hung up with a "thanks for getting in touch". What is happening here!!!!???

Im on my third attempt in 3 hours! Been cut off twice - once whilst finally speaking to an agent. 40 min wait each time.... Ive been trying to sort out a late penalty fine which was not late and has been verified by my accountant . Im still getting worrying letter saying Im building up fines of over £2000 since Jan 23. Ive tried writing, phoning, appealing online and getting nowhere. im gettig really worried.
