Hi, I stopped work in 2006 and have not reached retirement age. I have 25 years national insurance contributions and would like to purchase additional years. My question is there any restriction on my purchase of additional years because I am not working. Many thanks,

Hi Johnr.walford,

Voluntary National Insurance contributions can be made on any years you haven’t worked, and you have no credits for (for example some benefits credit your account.)

You should contact DWP initially to determine how many years you need, and which years you can pay.

Thank you.
