RE: Claiming NI credits
Hi William Wilkin,
You would need to speak to the Job centre again to find out what form it is they are telling you to download and tell them that you have been unable to find it.
HMRC cannot award National Insurance credits from benefits without confirmation from the Department for Work and Pensions.
Further information regarding National Insurance credits can be found here - National Insurance credits
With regards to the period you were working in Holland, there would be no credits awarded to you however, you can apply to pay voluntary National Insurance contributions if you wish to fill the gaps for those periods. To do that you will need to complete the CF83 application form which can be found here - Apply to pay voluntary National Insurance contributions when abroad (CF83)
Before completing this form, you must read the information on the NI38, which can be found here - Social Security abroad: NI38
With regards to the 2012-2013 tax year, please write to HMRC and we will check if we can trace any missing contributions for that year.
Please include the following information in your letter:
• all employer details which should include employers name and address, your staff/payroll number (if known) and the tax year the earnings are missing from
• any evidence of your earnings during the period for example pay slips, P45 or P60 certificates
• your full name (with previous name if known), date of birth, address, a contact number and your National Insurance number
• your signature
The address to write to is:

Thank you.

RE: Mechanism for paying class 2 NI contributions from abroad
Hi classwho,
You must contact the Department for Work and Pensions. There is a department within DWP called the Future Pensions Centre who will be able to answer any queries such as:
-How many more years you need personally to get the full State Pension
-Which tax years past present or future will give you the best increase on your state pension if you were to voluntary pay them off.
HMRC cannot provide you with that type of advice.

RE: Mechanism for paying class 2 NI contributions from abroad
Hi Simon Harrison,
I can confirm that you may pay any voluntary class 2 National Insurance contributions from overseas by using the IBAN and BIC codes that you’ve mentioned and use the reference number in any payments.
Your Personal Tax Account (PTA) will always show any shortfalls of contributions at the voluntary class 3 rate.
As you’ve been accepted to pay at the voluntary class 2 rate then please use the letter that our International Team have provided you with for the actual amount that you pay.
Thank you. -
RE: Overpaid National Insurance
Hi Yuki Lui,
May I ask that you speak with your employer and they will be able to adjust the amount of National Insurance contributions that they deducted from your salary and arrange for a refund to be made to you.
Thank you. -
RE: Registered letter to BX9 1AN without a reply
Hi Ivana,
The postcode that you’ve used would appear to be one for The Pension Service.
If you are over UK State Pension Age you may wish to call the International Pension Centre on +44 191 2187777 and they will check whether they have received your letter.
You may wish to check the postcode that you’ve used as the one for the International Pension Centre would appear to be WV98 1LW.
If you are under UK State Pension Age then you may wish to complete a new application to pay voluntary National Insurance contributions.
You can submit your application online by going to Social Security abroad: NI38
Thank you. -

RE: Voluntary Class 2 NI - working abroad
Hi alyev,
If you would like to pay voluntary class 2 National Insurance contributions whilst you are overseas please make your application by completing the CF83 application form.
Our International Team will then be able to assess whether you are entitled to pay them and if not provide you with an alternative.

RE: Mechanism for paying class 2 NI contributions from abroad
Hi classwho,
The time it takes for payments you make to be credited to your account depends on which tax years you are paying for, what part of the world you live and/or work in and also which class of national insurance you have paid.
If you have a Personal Tax Account, when we post the credits to your account you will be able to see them on there.
If you would like a more precise answer I would advise to ring our helpline and we can give you an update on the payment you have made and we will be able to give you a better idea of the timescales of the payment being credited.
You could also ask for an acknowledgment letter to be issued to you as well if you wish.

Paid extra NI contributions but did not get extra state pension
Hi Debby Williams,
If The Pension Service advised your husband that by making the payment of voluntary contributions it would increase his pension entitlement then it may be that his payments have not been allocated to his National Insurance account.
May I ask that he calls the National Insurance Helpline on 0300 200 3500 (from the UK) or +44 191 2037010 (from overseas) and they will be able to check that the allocation has been made and be able to help him further.
Thank you. -
No Reply to CF83 but Can Pay Class 2 for 2023-2024?
Hi Johnny King,
Your clients should have received letters about their CF83 application forms so you may wish to call the National Insurance Helpline (providing that you have authority) on 0300 200 3500 and they will arrange for copies to be issued.
Thank you.
