RE: Backdated NI payments not showing on record
Hi The Woodster,
Your payment should have been allocated to your wife’s National Insurance account by now so may I ask that your wife calls the National Insurance Helpline on 0300 200 3500 (from the UK) or +44 191 2037010 (from overseas) and we will be able to make sure that the payment is recorded on her account and allocate it straight away.

If she would prefer, she may wish to write to us and provide us with details of the payment and how she would like it allocated to her National Insurance account.
She should also include her full name, National Insurance Number and address.

RE: Paying NI gaps between April 2006 and April 2016 at Class 2
Hi JRHMRC,
It is still currently possible to pay class 2 for periods overseas for tax years 2006-2016.
You must apply to pay however using application form CF83 which can be found on the GOV.UK website. Please find a link to the form below:

RE: Voluntary national insurance contributions and pension for years prior moving to the UK
Hi Rob,
It may be possible to pay voluntary contributions from the 2006-2007 tax year.
I would recommend that you obtain a State Pension Forecast before applying to pay any voluntary contributions.
You may obtain this from: Check your State Pension forecast
Once you’ve checked your State Pension Forecast then you may wish to speak with the National Insurance Helpline on 0300 200 3500 to arrange payment of
any voluntary contributions that you wish.
Thank you. -
RE: cheque or online payment?
Hi Robert,
HMRC can use their own judgement to allocate payments against certain years.
However, if you have a number of years with shortfall’s, it may not be obvious which year your payment is relating to (some years may be charged at the same amount). Therefore, you should send a letter to HMRC advising which tax years you would like your payment to be allocated to.
You can pay the full amount in one lump sum, or separately if you only want to pay one year at a time. Alternatively, you can call the National Insurance helpline and tell us what years your payment is for and the advisor will note your records for the payment to be allocated correctly.
Thank you.

RE: Benefit in Kind Tax Query
Hi Matt,
Yes this is correct.
If the benefit is payrolled then it will be added to your salary and taxed at source rather than have to declare on a P11D.
Thank you. -
RE: Self assessment refund and notice I do not need to complete SA next year
Hi Matthew,
To review the repayment we will need to access your record.
You can contact HMRC at Self Assessment: general enquiries. There is also a webchat option available from the link.
Pension contributions are not Self Assessment criteria unless you received a pension saving tax charge notice or exceed the pension contribution annual allowance.
You can check the criteria at Check if you need to send a Self Assessment tax return.
If not a one of payment for your pension contributions then your tax code would be amended to give tax relief going forward.
Thank you. -

RE: How is tax paid on savings accounts
Hi _viator,
The banks and building societies submit the untaxed interest details to HMRC after the tax year end.
Once received we will review the tax year and if underpaid a calculation will be issued with the details.
If the underpayment is less than £3000 and your PAYE income is large enough to collect the underpayment your tax code would be amended in the following tax year to collect.
We would use the untaxed interest figures supplied as an estimate going forward and your tax code would be adjusted.
f your untaxed interest changes you can contact HMRC to amend the code Income Tax: general enquiries
Thank you.
