RE:Double Taxation with Japan on cash gift
Hi InterestedInTax,
There are no Income Tax implications on the receipt of a cash gift unless the cash gift generates interest or dividends.
These would then potentially be subject to tax.
Further guidance can be found here:
Tax on savings interest
Thank you. -
RE:Gifted property from abroad
Hi InterestedInTax,
1.There is no tax for you to pay on the actual transfer but you parents may wish to check if they are due to pay Capital Gains Tax
2. Yes you will be liable to Capital Gains Tax if/when you sell the property and it has not been your only and main residence
3. Yes you will need to declare it:
Please see guidance here:

RE:remittance basis - air ticket purchased outside UK
Hi K H,
Commonly foreign income and gains are ‘remitted to the UK’ if they (or something deriving from them) are:
brought to, or received in, or used in the UK by you or another relevant person
brought to, or received in, or used in the UK for your benefit or that of another relevant person
used to pay for a service provided in the UK to you or another relevant person
used to pay for a service provided in the UK for your benefit or that of another relevant person
used outside of the UK for a relevant debt in the UK
A remittance will not only occur if you remit the actual or original foreign income and gains to the UK.
You will also make a remittance if you remit something that derives from them to the UK.
Thank you.

RE: When will I get overpaid tax repayment?
Hi janice.ho,
As a non resident landlord you need to declare the income in a tax return.
The 23/24 tax year has not yet finished, you will be able to file your tax return after 06/04/24 to then claim any repayment:
Tax on your UK income if you live abroad
Thank you.

RE:Paid tax owed from prior tax year already paid - but now being collected again in next year tax
Hi yossarian70,
When your 2022/23 Self Assessment was received your 2023/24 tax code would have been amended to include the rental income going forward.
We would use the 2022/23 figure as an estimate for 2023/24.
The tax being deducted for your rental income is for the 2023/24 tax year not the 2022/23 balancing payment.
The 2022/23 balance will be collected in your 2024/25 tax code therefore not being paid twice.
Thank you. -
RE:P85 "Date you left the UK" ?
Hi italian_user_24,
If you left the UK September 2023 then that would be the date you would enter.
