I’m looking to import a single window for our home from the US. It is £14368. What VAT rate is applicable and what rate of import duty? Does this apply to the total price (including shipping & packaging etc) or just the item price? Thanks in advance

Import duty is based on the cost of the goods plus freight and insurance ( so anything you pay to get the goods to the UK) - the value for duty. The duty rate depends on the exact type of window . Is it just the glass or is it in frame ? What is the frame made from? You can look up the goods type and therefore the duty rate in the UK trade tariff on the .gov website. Import VAT is paid on the value for duty plus the duty payable. The VAT rate is 20 %

Hi
I would advise checking with the shipping agent or contacting the Customs and International trade helpline on 0300 322 9434 with your query.
Thankyou.
