RE: Child benefit and NI contributions
Hi,
This all depends whether your mother reached State pension age before or after 6th April 2010.
If your mother reached State pension age before 6th April 2010 she would not of received any credits for Child Benefit.
She would have a period of Home Responsibilities Protection from 1978 (the year HRP was introduced)
However how HRP worked for customers who reached SPA before 6th April 2010 was by reducing the number of qualifying years needed for a full basic State Pension, they did not receive any credits.
Only customers who reached State Pension age after 6th April 2010 would have received National Insurance credits for receiving Child Benefit after 1978 from when their child was born up until they turned 16 years of age.
Thank you. -

RE: NI 10 years qualify
Hi,
If you rent out properties you may be eligible to pay Class 2 National insurance voluntary. Please have a read of NIM74250 - NIM74250 - Class 2 National Insurance contributions: special cases: property and investment income
There is a tier system where if you are Tier 1 you are not entitled to pay class 2 NICs, Tier 2- you are Entitled to pay Class 2 and Tier 3-you are liable to pay class 2 and class 4 National Insurance.
If you believe you are tier 2 or 3 then you can contact us by webchat or phone to register for class 2 national insurance and we will issue you out a voluntary class 2 bill every tax year.
If you are tier one, you can still pay voluntary but it would have to be Class 3 National Insurance.
If you want to set up a class 3 Direct Debit or annual bill you can either contact us by webchat or phone. Or alternatively you can fill in form CA5603 see Apply to pay voluntary Class 3 National Insurance contributions.
Please find our Contact details below.

Hi,
You should provide your residential address, but if you would like HMRC to send post to a different address you can ask for a correspondence address to be used.
Thank you.

RE: NI refund when ending employment part way through tax year
Hi,
From the details that you have provided, it would appear that the class 1 National Insurance contributions that your employer deducted from your salary were correct and not available to be refunded.
This is because National Insurance contributions are calculated when you received your salary and you were, therefore, liable to pay them.
You may wish to obtain a State Pension Forecast via Check your State Pension forecast which will detail your current and future entitlement to a UK State Pension.
Thank you. -
RE: National Insurance Class 2 Contribution
Hi sananemos,
I can advise that Personal Tax Accounts always show any shortfalls of voluntary National Insurance contributions at the class 3 rate.
If you wish to pay any voluntary contributions then please use the figures in the letter that you’ve received from us rather than the amounts shown on your Personal Tax Account.
Thank you.

RE: Leaving UK after 5 years of NIN contribution
Hi flora,
Your wife may wish to speak with The Pension Service Future Pension Centre on 0800 731 0175 (from the UK) or +44 218 3600 (from overseas) and they will be able to discuss her current and future entitlement to a UK State Pension and if any contributions paid in an EU country may help.
She may wish to obtain a State Pension Forecast which she can obtain via: Check your State Pension forecast
Thank you.
