  • RE: How to pay annually from abroad

    Hi,
Requests for voluntary National Insurance contributions for individuals living/working overseas are issued shortly after the end of each tax year.
The requests for the 2023-2024 tax year were issued shortly after 5 April 2024.
If you have not received yours then you may wish to call our National Insurance Helpline on 0300 200 3500 (from the UK) or +44 191 203 7010 (from overseas) and they will be able to advise you of the amount required and how to make payment.
They will also ensure that a request for the 2024-2025 tax year will be issued to you.
    Thank you.
  • RE: Living Abroad - paying Class 3 years for time when living in UK (missed because of university)

    Hi Jimmy,
I can confirm that an individual may pay voluntary National Insurance contributions for the 2006-2007 to 2023-2024 tax years at the moment.
This will change after 5 April 2025.
Before deciding to pay voluntary contributions, may I suggest that you first obtain a State Pension Forecast via Check your State Pension forecast to ensure that it’s worthwhile to do so.
    Thank you.

  • RE: Can I get a full years NI contribution if my income is sporadic?

    Hi,
You will not be penalised for not earning a regular amount each month.
For example, you could potentially earn enough in a few months to make that year a qualifying year for pension purposes.
    Thank you.

  • RE: Applying for an A1/S1 new process

    Hi,
The S1 certificate should have been issued with the A1 if you are eligible.
If, this hasn’t happened, and you believe that you are eligible for the S1 certificate, please write to the International Caseworker Department at the following address:
    International Caseworker
    Insurability
    PT Operations North East England
    HM Revenue and Customs
    BX9 1AN
HMRC determine whether an A1/S1 is applicable based on the information provided on the application, and the application will only allow you to input your primary address.
If your circumstances do not fit the application, you can provide a covering letter to explain your situation.
    Thank you.
