RE: Sole Trader/Business Trading Name
Hi Minxy,
If you are going to be a sole trader then you will need to register for Self Assessment if your gross income will be greater that £1000.
If you will be a director of a limited company then this will not be self employment and is not Self Assessment criteria.
You can check if you meet the criteria to register for Self Assessment here:
Check if you need to send a Self Assessment tax return
Thank you. -

RE: Total loss to carry forward
Hi "WIZROB
Yes, you should enter the total of the loss from both current and last year into the 'Total loss to carry forward after all other set-offs including unused losses brought forward'.
Assuming you are using the free HMRC online filing service, please note you can use the 'get help' buttons available on every screen and explain your problem.
A member of the team will then reply to you.
Thank you.

RE: Deed of Gift
Hi Pandaman,
The transfer would need to be based on the market value, so if this is less than the value when transferred to you then yes a loss would arise and offset against future Capital Gains Tax.
