Given the upcoming deadline for paying backdated voluntary NIC, I wish to query apparent shortfalls in my State Pension record for certain years when I paid full contributions. I try repeatedly to speak with the National Insurance Contributions Office and the Future Pensions Centre to request details of these apparent shortfalls, but am unable to get through by phone. A recorded message states that “HMRC will consider accepting voluntary NICs paid after 6th April as paid on time due to unprecedented demand on DWP and HMRC telephony lines”. Can you confirm that this extended deadline will also apply to shortfalls from 2006 to 2016?

Hi Liz Williamson,

The deadline for paying voluntary National Insurance contributions for tax years 2006-2007 to 2016-2017 has been extended to 31/07/2023.

Taxpayers given more time for voluntary National Insurance contributions

Thank you.
