I have completed a self assessment return for 21-22 in order to declare my charitable gift aid donations however I have now been presented with a tax liability when I didn't previously have one, tax is 25% of my actual donation. anyone shed any light on why?

Hi,

If you were a non taxpayer and have made gift aid donations, you will be required to pay
the tax relief claimed by the charity to HMRC .

Thank you.

Hi,

If you declared your employment income and tax paid and this covered the amount of gift aid, I would not expect this to generate an amount due.

Please contact our Self Assessment team and we can review the calculation.
