Hello, I have got a question about eligibility to make any voluntary national insurance for migrant. I have migrated into the UK recently and I will only be able to get 9 qualifying years before reaching to 67 in 2031. Am I entitle to make voluntary payment for national insurance to make up some gap before migration so I could entitle to part of the state pension? if so, which class should I pay? Thank you. Kind regards, Jonathan

Hi,

You can only apply to pay voluntary National Insurance contributions from the start of the tax year in which your date of entry into the UK was.

For example, if you came to the UK on 11 November 2022, you can only apply to pay voluntary National Insurance contributions from 06 April 2022.

You would not be eligible to pay voluntary National Insurance contributions for any earlier tax years.

Thank you.
