My wife and I are trying to makesome voluntary contrbution payments to fill the shortfalls in her NI contributions. We live overseas, and we have seen in the HMRC website that we can make these payments by bank transfer using our UK HSBC bank account. The bank account indicates in the HMRC website is 'HMRC NIC receipts', sort code 20-2--48, account number 30944793. BUT the HSBC website does not recognise this account, and instead proposes 'HMRC deficiency payment', sort code 08-32-20, account number 12001004. Which is the correct one?

I am having the same problem. I am overseas and trying to make some voluntary NICs payments to make up the shortfalls. The bank account the HMRC website and leaflet refers to is 20-20-48 30944793 but HSBC does not have this in company look up, instead it shows account details 08-32-20 12001004. In fact all of the HMRC account numbers shown have a sort code of 08-32-20. I have tried ringing the helpline, but whichever option you chose, the phone eventually cuts you off! Did you find out what the correct answer to your query was? Thanks

Hi Marco Federighi,

I trust you have read and applied to pay voluntary NICs while abroad from the following link
Social Security abroad: NI38
Once your CF83 application has been accepted to pay voluntary NICs from abroad the correct bank details are:
Account Name:  NIC Receipts
Account Number 30944397
Sort code : 20 20 48
Reference:  your NI number followed by IC then surname and initials up to 18 digits.
The other bank details is a valid account, it is used for UK Voluntary Class 3 payments.

Thank you.

Hi Lizzy W, I tried to talk with HSBC but I got nowhere - they replied but seemed unable to solve this, at least on the phone. I am in Spain and I have an account with La Caixa, and I'll do the transfer from that one using the IBAN. It should work - I am planning to do it tomorrow or next week.
