Self assesment losses input

Hi I have losses to carry forward from a previous year which I have input into Box 38 on the SA form. However, for some reason this figure does then not carry forward to the tax calculation and so the losses are not being taken into account when the tax is calculated. Can I get some guidance on this please?

Hi PB7621,

You only put in the amount that you actually need for the year.
The losses brought forward cannot exceed your profit.
Any excess will then be carried forward to a later year.
