Hi, I filled in my tax return and now it's asking me to verify my identity. I chose two options (P60 and credit references) but it immediately sends me to a page saying "Identity verification failed" without me even answering any questions or uploading any documents. Can you please advise what is wrong and how can I verify my identity. Thank you

Hi Sara Almeida,

If the system is unable to generate enough questions to verify it can cause this. If you have completed your tax return and have a repayment to request, you can contact our Self Assessment team 72 hours after submission.

Self Assessment: general enquiries

Thank you.

Hi. I have been trying to set up a gateway account. Having problems verifying my ID. I vê been given the choice to use two ways of proving my ID out of three options: UK passport, p60 or payslip and northern Ireland driving license. I don't have UK passport or northern Ireland driving license. I have UK driving license, a valid EU passport, p60, payslips, setlled status, bank accounts. Why are these the only options available? You are excluding me from using my account when I work, pay my bills, pay taxes and everything else that is required as a citizen. I have tried HMRC helpline, I have tried emailing the support and get help page, the page support and all tell me that is not a technical issue and keep calling them in an endless loop. There is no way. No paper forms, no walk in offices, no phone or online help... I am gonna be excluded from childcare hours for my daughter due to a lack of common sense in using more ways of proving who I am Any suggestion please?

Can you please help me . I have tried using my U.K. passport and credit reference information to verify my I’d and the system is still saying unable to verify and I am therefore unable to proceed. . I have rechecked all my information with HMRC and Transunion credit information held , all my details are correct and I am still unable to pass the verification stage. This is very frustrating as I need access to my online account for my new job to verify my HMRC documents. If I am unable to open the HMRC account the potential employer will not be able to verify me and will cancel the job offer. I need help please.

Hi,

Daniela 21,

The online verification system only uses questions that we are able to currently use for that process.

There will be changes to the verification process in July and more options may be available then.

If you are not able to verify, you will need to contact our Childcare Service helpline :

Childcare Service helpline  .

Thank you.

Hi

Remus ionut Lakatos,

You are unable to use the previous login as this was a gov.uk verify account, which is no longer supported.

If you are unable to verify with the government gateway questions you will not be able to access the online account.
Thank you.

Hi

Percy99 ,

If you are entering the correct information and are unable to verify, you can report this issue by selecting the link 'get help with this page'
or 'is this page not working properly' to report this to our digital support team.

You should advise you have contacted Income Tax but the issue cant be resolved.

In the meantime if the employer is requesting an Employment History you will need to request this from our Income Tax helpline :

Income Tax: general enquiries    .

Thank you.

Hi,

If you are unable to verify with the questions available you will not be able to access the online account, and you would need to submit a paper tax return. There will be updates to the verification process in July, and you may be able to verify after the updates are put in place.

Thank you.

Hi, i need to access my personal tax account, i used to access it using Gov.verify however that option is no longer available and when asked to verify my identity it needs me to choose 2 out of 3 options. 1. UK passport, i only have a EU passport 2. P60 3.northern Ireland drivers licence, i hold a UK one Is there any other way i can access my account?

Hi,

If you are not able to verify with the questions being asked, you will not be able to verify to access the
Personal Tax Account using the Government Gateway.

There will be some changes to the verification process during July, and you may be able to verify at a later date.

Thank you.

I've tried to claim a tax overpayment to my bank account online but am unable to verify my identity because the only ID I can supply is my UK passport. I'm retired so don't have a P60 and I don't have an Irish passport. As a UK citizen, and a UK taxpayer and passport holder for more than 40 years this is insulting nonsense!

Hello HMRC admins, I am having problems logging into both the personal tax account service and the file your self-assessment service, both of which I understand use Government Gateway data to veryify my ID. I have a Government Gateway ID which I obtained using Digidentity back in 2020. When I log in to either the personal tax account service or the file your self-assessment service using my Government Gateway ID, I am asked to confirm my identity by entering my name, date of birth and post code; Then I receive the message on screen that the information I entered does not match the records! The information I am entering is 100% correct, so what should I do? Is there a help line? An address to write to? Thanks for your attention.

so we all waited for things to change in July. When i try now the process STARTS WITH "you will be asked to give details about 2 items you may have" and the list includes Payslips and Driving licence so I should be fine. It then gives me a list to choose from, 2 items from: Driving licence (ok) UK passport (I dont have one of those) Credit reference questions (should also be ok). I then fill in all the details about my driving licence and it returns me to a list to choose from - 2 items from: Driving licence (I ve just given details for this) and UK passport. All the other options are nowhere to be found. How do I get to choose the options that I have and not get randomly selected to provide details on the options I dont have?

Hello, my partner has the same issue. Recently he was trying to log in to gov gateway with the correct password and ID but it needs to be verified however with NI, name DOB, nothing matched the records? Like what is going on.

Good Afternoon, I'm another poor soul unable to verify my identity. I find the verification process to be just ridiculous. I'm asked for a UK passport that I don't have (well I'm not British, we still exist after Brexit), a uk driving license (I have my valid EU license), my p60 (I guess that's the only thing I got right since I just have to copy two numbers) and "something about my credit past" (which I don't have cause I never got any loan, excuse me). The best thing is that I received from the GOV a self assessment letter so they know exactly who I am, where I reside, where is my money and all the taxes I pay (being 100% PAYE). I suppose I'd be happy to just send a paper form, but I can't even access it. When I click I am brought back to my login page where I'm asked to VERIFY again. The phone support is completely useless: no matter what I declare to the computer that listens, it always thinks I would get all I need on the website and hangs up on me. There is no trace of any email to ask for support either. I think this is absolutely unbearable and as a tax payer. But for now I'd just be happy to complete this return and forget it until next year. How do I do it?

Hi

originalwynne ,

If the system is redirecting you back after you have already selected an option and not using the informatin, you will need to report an
issue towards the bottom of the page.

Thank you.
