I am planning to leave the UK indefinitely from the 1st of October, 2023, and I foresee no return to the UK in the near future. My immediate travel plan involves moving to Algeria for a couple of months (October to November), and then moving permanently to the UAE from December 1, 2023. Presently, I am employed by a UK-based company. Following my move, I will be working full time abroad, however, I will remain employed by the same UK company, and will continue to receive my salary in GBP through a UK payroll. I am a UK tax resident for this current year, and this has also been the case for the past three years. I have not been requested to complete a self-assessment for this current tax year. I understand that I am eligible to submit the P85 form and apply for a Non-Resident (NT) tax code. My query revolves around the timing of these actions: A. Should I submit the P85 form and apply for the NT tax code now, in July, mentioning my planned departure date from the UK (October 1st)? B. Should I initiate these steps right after my permanent departure from the UK on October 1st? C. Or should I wait until I become a permanent resident of the UAE on December 1st, to submit the P85 form and apply for the NT tax code? I greatly appreciate your guidance on this matter.

Hi Mokrane12,

The form can be completed and submitted within 8 weeks of your confirmed departure date.
Do not send the form earlier than this, as it will be returned unactioned.
Guidance on filling in form P85, can be found at Guidance for filling in this form.
