Hi, I filed my tax return for April 2021-22 online. I had a balancing payment to make of £XXXX. I made this payment on 25th July. In my account it states. You are £XXXX in credit. This is the same as how much you owe. Your bill will be paid on 31 January 2023. Why does it not credit my account now so I can see I have paid what I owe for April 2021-April 22 tax year? In previous years I am sure this is what happened.

Our Self Assessment system follows the "Statement of Standard Accounting Practice (SSAP).

This means that any payments that you make in advance of their due date, need to be held in credit until the due date arrives.

It is your money, not HMRC's money, until the due date arrives.

Thank you.
