Self assessment Refund

I submitted my self assessment tax return in July I was due a refund. I had radio silence for months when I called I was just given another date in the future to call back. I then received security checks to complete in October. It’s now Feb and there is still no update on my pending refund. No one is able to help when I call the helpline and I am just given another date in the future to call back. I have no idea what the hold up is. Why are refunds being delayed?
