I paid the bill online for my self-assessment last month, but the money is just sitting in the account. It says that the balancing payment will be made in January 2023 when it's due. I paid the bill now because...I wanted to pay it now! Not just have the money sit there. I wanted to make sure my class 2 NIC were paid so I would get my full entitlement to maternity allowance. Now I've received a letter to say I won't get the full amount of MA because I haven't paid enough class 2 NI. It's so frustrating - the same thing happened last time I was pregnant and it took ages to fix. I had to call HMRC so many times to get them to use the money that I had already paid to pay the class 2 NI and then I had to chase them again many times to update the maternity allowance people. Is there a simpler solution?
