I submit a self assessment each year to cover High Income Child Benefit Charge. On my 21/22 submission filed in Jan 23 it calculated a tax over payment due to be repaid to me. I've just enquired today to find out my self assessment was rejected. I've had no messages via HMRC portal or any letters to state this, on the self assessment latest updated just says submitted and there's nothing under penalties or any other info to state this. My question is can they charge me late fees/ penalties given I was not informed my self assessment was rejected?

Hi Gareth Johnstone,

If the return is showing as submitted and when you access the return it says %100 complete and submitted to HMRC, you will need to contact our Online Services Helpdesk to trace the return Technical support with HMRC online services.

Thank you
