I am using the HMRC PAYE basic tools. I am currently registering a new employee. He has a P45 from his last job. He left his last job in 2014 - which means PAYE tools won't let me register him as this was more than 6 years ago. What do I do? Thanks in advance.

Hi Nikki Wood,

You cannot use a P45 from 2014. as it's out of date.

You can only use P45 issued in the current tax year.

P45's can be used issued from 6/4/2022- 5/4/2023 which is the current tax year - 2022/23.

You give the employee a starter check list  to complete.

Found here:

Starter checklist for PAYE

Add the employee on to Basic PAYE Tools as a new employee without a P45.

You can find guidance here:

Tell HMRC about a new employee

Thank you
