Hi I get my state pension on 9th August this year 2023. Can i still buy 2022-23 Class 3 contributions and they will be added or will this be too late as you cant pay for the same year as your state pension age. Or is it the tax year before my state pension year Thank you so much

Hi,
If you’re reaching State Pension Age on 9 August 2023, the last year you would be able to pay voluntary National Insurance contributions for, would be the 2022-2023 tax year (i.e. the tax year before you reach state pension age).
Therefore, you would be able to pay for the 2022-2023 tax year if you have a shortfall in that year. However, you must contact the Department For Work and Pensions to check if paying voluntary Class 3 National Insurance contributions would increase your pension before deciding to pay.
You can contact them on 0800 731 0175, lines are open from 8am to 6pm Monday to Friday.
Further information on paying voluntary National Insurance contributions can be found here:
Pay voluntary Class 3 National Insurance
Thank you.
